Murder trial for Corpus Christi woman scheduled to start May 6
A Corpus Christi woman is set to face trial next month in the fatal shooting of a man last year at his mobile home.
Donna Susan Taylor told police she was looking for her keys and dumped everything out of her purse when the pistol accidentally went off and shot Floyd Eugene Scroggin Jr. [50823:K], 54, according to the affidavit. Scroggin later died at Christus Spohn Hospital Memorial on Jan. 16, 2012.
Taylor's trial is set for May 6.
She was indicted in August on murder and possession of a controlled substance, a second-degree felony.
According to an arrest affidavit, officers were called about 10:45 a.m. to find Scroggin with a single gunshot wound to the upper chest near his neck. Police also found Taylor at the scene and recovered a .22-caliber revolver.
When investigators took Taylor to the city detention center for questioning, officers said she gave differing accounts of how the gun fired.
Scroggin's son [50828:K] told police Taylor texted him saying it was an accident and that she was holding the gun when it went off, according to an arrest affidavit.
Taylor, who is in eligible for release, remained Thursday at the Nueces County Jail.
