Man found unresponsive in dog house arrested
The News Courier
An Elkmont man was arrested Friday after allegedly beating his father and attempting to escape custody.  Robert Jerald Scroggins, 36, of 25560 Mooresville Road, remained in Limestone County Jail Monday afternoon on a $31,000 bond, according to a jail official. He's facing a charge of third-degree domestic violence (harassment) and first-degree escape. He's also charged with one count of driving under the influence, but the charge is unrelated to Friday's incident, Limestone County Sheriff's Office spokesman Stephen Young said.
Deputies responded to a call Friday of a domestic dispute at the Mooresville Road address. Bobby Scroggins [36114:C] told Lt. Justin Flanagan his son, Robert, had approached him in his car and repeatedly punched him in the head after the two began arguing. Bobby Scroggins said he was unable to escape the fight from where he was sitting in the car and officers reported finding marks on Bobby Scroggins' head.  Robert Scroggins then turned toward his father's girlfriend and threatened her when his father got out of his car to confront him, according to the police report. Robert allegedly pushed his father to the ground before returning to the girlfriend.
When deputies arrived on scene, they found Robert Scroggins unresponsive inside a dog house behind the garage, according to reports. Officers called medical personnel to take Robert to the hospital and a deputy went with them, Young said. While waiting for Robert to be treated, investigators found he had a warrant out for his arrest on a previous charge of driving under the influence.  Once Scroggins was released from care, Dept. Anthony Bruno put him in handcuffs for the DUI charge and the third-degree domestic violence charge, according to reports. While he was being placed in a patrol vehicle, Scroggins reportedly pushed Bruno away and tried to run from the hospital campus. Bruno said he caught Scroggins from behind, sending them both to the ground. He reported no further problems with the arrest, but added the first-degree escape charge for the incident.
