Mr. Joseph Thomas and wife Mrs. Roseann Thomas celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on Feb. 7 at the Reading Country Club, Viva Buffet, Perkiomen Avenue, Reading.
Their daughter Terri and her husband Frank Payne hosted the celebration. In attendance were their two grandchildren, Nick and his wife Laurel McDermott, with their two great grandchildren, Hunter and Mia. Also present were granddaughter Samantha with husband Dale Scroggins; three other great grandchildren, Avery, Ellie and Ruttledge; and their son, Joseph Thomas, Jr.

“I ran a business and was responsible for the buying, selling, accounting, operations and transportation of grain and grain by-products throughout the United States.”

2. What are your plans to secure law enforcement presence in Rio Communities?

“The Valencia County Sheriff’s Office is the most cost effective and professional law enforcement available to us now and in the foreseeable future. A police department with well qualified officers and support staff is a goal requiring further study and analysis.”

3. What are your plans for economic growth in the city?

“We should extol the virtues of Rio Communities as a place to live and work to attract professionals and service businesses. I believe the plans to create a city center around the Valley Plaza area are exciting.”

4. What issues do you think the newly formed Valencia Association of Local Elected Officials could help the city solve?

“We can learn a lot from the members of the Valencia Association of Local Elected Officials. They have insight into available resources.”

Report alleges SV coach struck Pikeville player during post-game ...

In an incident report filed Friday with the office of Pike County Attorney Howard Keith Hall, Pikeville player Cody Charles said that, as he was going to the locker room following the game, he, “heard (Shelby Valley) coach (Jim Bob) Hicks yelling at one of our coaches.” Charles, the report said, turned around and saw Hicks, “charging at” the Pikeville coach.  “I stepped in between them and coach Hicks hit me in the left cheek,” the report attributes to Charles. Charles’mother, Tonya Scroggins, said that she was in the stands when the incident occurred but that she was told there was no exchange between her son and Hicks before the altercation occurred, but that the exchange was between Hicks and a Pikeville coach. Scroggins said Charles was OK after the incident, but that the incident had left a mark.  “His cheek was swelled ... and red,” she said.  Pikeville coach Bart Williams said Friday he did not see what had occurred....
