Marilyn Scroggins [17664:S, fb] of Harrison is celebrating two 60-year chapters in her life, both driven by service, to her community and to her church. Her 81st birthday was Nov. 1 and she is still active in two Extension Homemakers Clubs and continues as a choir member at First Baptist Church in Harrison. Marilyn moved to Harrison in 1946 with her parents, two sisters, a brother and some registered goats. She and her family came from the rural area of Medina County, Ohio. ... At 15, before finishing high school, she met her future husband, Gus Scroggins [17663:S]. After Gus returned from Korea with the National Guard they married. Marilyn was 17 at the time and her parents had to sign, giving consent. “Gus was 10 years older than me,” says Marilyn. “My parents didn’t seem to have a problem with that, but my older sister just threw a fit about it, maybe because he was older than her husband.” ...
