Harold Von Harrington, 26, was about to celebrate his daughter’s fifth birthday Sunday. He was sitting in his car Saturday evening about 6:30 p.m., the snow falling gently, when those plans came abruptly to an end. Harrington’s car was riddled with bullets, and at least one took his life.
His mother, Lynette Scroggins, was inside the family home in the 3200 block of Central Drive, dozing on the couch when she heard the gunshots that killed her only son. ... Harrington’s daughter, Ma’Riyah, seemed unaware of what had happened to her father. The birthday party was still on, and her hair had been especially fixed for the occasion. Scroggins said her son lived with her and helped her as she had been having some health problems lately. He wasn’t in a gang and he wasn’t into violence, she said of Harrington, a graduate of Northrop High School. He learned how to play saxophone when he was an elementary student at Zion Lutheran School.
