Cousins, ages 6 and 11, died in I-65 crash near Columbus

A relative of two young cousins who died after a tragic accident on Interstate 65 said they were inseparable — two peas in a pod — who did everything together.  “Maybe it’s God’s way of saying they needed to be together,” Richanda Hahn [49120, fb] said of 6-year-old Addyson Engle of Seymour and her 11-year-old cousin, Keghan McCrory-Engle, of nearby Hayden.  The two died when the SUV that Hahn’s mother, Kathy Scroggins [49132, fb] of Commiskey, was driving struck the back of a stopped semitrailer Thursday.   ... A front-seat passenger in the vehicle, Bryannah Reynolds, 6, of Commiskey, was hospitalized at Riley Hospital for Children in Indianapolis.

A Jennings County woman and her six-year-old daughter remain in critical condition after slamming into the back of a semi on I-65 Thursday. Questions still remain about what happened on Interstate 65. But family members tell us Kathy Scroggins had driven to Indianapolis to take one of the children to see their mother and were returning home. ... It took rescue crews two hours to cut Scroggins out of the wreckage.  ... She and her six-year-old adoptive daughter Brianna Reynolds were both critically injured. Investigators say Brianna, who has special needs, was belted in a child safety seat directly behind Scroggins.  Two other young family members died on impact.  The Bartholomew County Coroner tells Eyewitness News 11-year old Keegan Engle was belted in the front passenger seat. His six-year-old cousin Addison Engle was belted in, in the back seat.  Kathy Scroggins is their great aunt. Family members say she had taken one of the Engle children to see their mother, who was hospitalized with pregnancy complications.  Scroggins' son was killed in a one-car accident near Deeno's almost two years ago....
