Get acquainted with Tribune's sports reporters
The San Luis Obispo Tribune‎
Today, we feature our two full-time sports reporters, Alex J. Jankowski and Joshua D. Scroggin [40918:K, fb].
Joshua D. Scroggin
Josh, 32, is a senior staff writer covering athletics at Cal Poly and Cuesta College, writing stories and producing multimedia content including photography, videos and audio podcasts.
He’s also the newsroom’s interactivity reporter, helping develop our social media strategy and offer staff training on best practices for social media accounts/apps and mobile multimedia.
The Fresno native moved to San Luis Obispo County in February 2006 to cover high school sports, then assumed the college beat when that became available.
After graduating from Fresno State with a journalism degree and a collegiate national excellence award from the Society of Professional Journalists in 2004, Josh worked as a sports reporter at the McClatchy-owned Merced Sun-Star from 2004 to 2006.
“I enjoy the fast-paced work environment of The Tribune and find journalism fulfilling for allowing us to impact the community through the stories we share,” he says. “My goal is to inform and entertain our audience with content they will not find elsewhere.”
If you’ve ever seen Josh on a football field or in a basketball court, you may have noticed that he loves to sport unorthodox and intricate necktie knots. Outside of work, he’s a doting dad to his 2 1/2-year-old son — and a huge comic book fan.
Josh is married to Samantha [49809:K, fb], who works in communications for Dignity Health.
